Tess is an excellent writer and her sequent to a crime mystery writer is exceptional. Keeping the romance in the story is the perfect balance. Well written as usual very entertaining with the who done it element throughout. Kat is a street savvy medical examiner with grit who embarks on solving the epidemic of drug overdoses by a mystery street drug. Adam the blue blood handsome man who's phone number is written on a matchbook gripped in a dead girls hand comes to see if he can identify the body of the Lane Doe. He is visibly shaken anticipating the viewing, who does he think she is wonders Kat. Once he sees it is not whom he fears Kat pushes him to find answers he says he doesn't have. Kat not one to back down pursues her quest to identify and stop this new dangers drug as the corpses stack up. Fighting the Mayer who doesn't care that drug users are dead and the police including the acting DA (who happens to be her ex) seem to think these useless drug users are better off dead. As Adam is the head is a pharmaceutical empire that does research and development of drugs Kat thinks he may know more than he says and as they butt heads hearts also flare. Good story worth the read.Product details

Tess Gerritsen first started out writing with a bit of romance in her books and this is one of those early books. I thought I had read the original book originally titled "Peggy Sue Got Murdered," but I was wrong. I was waiting to be disappointed because the majority of authors improve as they write more stories. I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is well written, flows well, love the characters, and there is only a touch of romance. In fact, I wish Ms. Gerritsen would write more of these types of books - she definitely has a knack for it.
I can't even remember what this book was about and I just finished it two days ago. It's the type of book that you take to the beach and don't care if a wave washes it away. It's not the worst book I ever read, but it's a close second. I was glad to find out that it was one of T. Gerritsen's earliest works and I have liked her later books much better. Please skip it if you care about character development, logic, sentence structure, etc.
I really enjoyed this book very much. It was very suspenseful and kept you guessing as to what would happen next. Tess Gerritsen is a great writer and I have read all her books so far.
my favorite is Bone Garden. I guess I should say so far as this author is full of surprises.
I would recommend this to anyone who loves a good mystery. It is one you cannot put down, take my word for it.
My eyes are sore from trying to finish it and see how the ending was to be. It was very good but not who I suspected, was the bad guy Full of suspence and a love story to boot.

This was another great mystery written by one of the best mystery writes. All of your books have a special flare to them. Your chacters are interesting and great chemistry. You always keep your readers on their toes. Thanks for an entertaining read.
When I read this book was one of Gerritsen's first, I was skeptical. I love her writing, so I gave it a shot. It became obvious early on that she's been incredibly talented from the start. An easy story to fall into & complete. Glad I took the chance.
Gerritsen writes that 'Girl Missing' was her transition book, written as she moved from writing romance to thrillers. I enjoyed the book and recommend it but it is not at the level of her recent offerings. I found the characters and plot not quite believable, certainly less complex than usual. I'm a big Gerritsen fan and though slightly disappointed, found it interesting to see her in the middle of changing genres. To repeat, I recommend it.
I've read other Tess Garritsen books that were excellent, this may be why this one was somewhat disappointing. Although this is an easy read, the characters are shallow and the story line is elementary and borders on being corny. Read her other books instead. The Mephisto Club. Lifeline.
I can suggest Lisa Gardner as a similar author.
